DorPIP are pleased to invite you to our next Steering Group meeting at Upton Country Park on Tuesday 25th April 2023. Your experiences and expertise are vital to help us to continue to deliver our award-winning service to families in Dorset, so that families can flourish, together. The meeting will be held 13:30-14:30, with arrival time starting at 13:00 so we have a little time to chat and get to know one another. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. IMPORTANT: Rural Dorset Working Group Meeting
As each day passes our communities in rural Dorset are finding increasing pressures on their families, relationships, children, money, health, and housing.
A multitude of factors are impacting, which include a lack of in-work progression routes, skills progression pathway blockages, recruitment challenges, lack of childcare support, housing options and support issues, and possibly the biggest barrier… transport, which impacts nearly everything. I could go on, but I’d like to think you already have a strong awareness and picture of rural Dorset issues relating to your customer base, your people and your local communities.
Don’t get me wrong there are amazing things happening out there. Every day I see wonderful initiatives, excellence in practice and true hero working across Dorset. You represent a fantastic broad and diverse range of sectors, and do incredible work .
You are the key individuals and organisations in Dorset that can truly make the difference, and between us I’m sure we could influence the rest of the movers and shakers also.
As such I would like to invite you to join a Rural Dorset Working Group Meeting on Thursday 13th April 10am to 11:30am, to see how we can all work on solutions. If you are interested the please send Charlotte Hastings-Stiles, Charlotte.Hastings-Stiles@seetecpluss.co.uk, an email and copy me in. If you cannot make the meeting in April, but still wish to be part of this group then please just say. You are of course welcome to share this email wider. Leaders from Dorset Council are particularly welcome.
Many thanks, and happy to discuss any aspects as always
David

This survey was designed by the Southern Universities Network Young Researchers, a group of young people aged between 14-17 and we come from across Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We want to find out what extra support students need to get the grades they want at GCSE, and work with the Southern Universities Network and schools to get that support for us! Please let us know what you think by filling in the survey, all answers are anonymous and you could be in with the chance of winning 1 of 5 £50 amazon vouchers by taking part!”

From Abigail Hole - Dorset Mind - I thought I would reach out to see if you'd be able to assist us in gathering some feedback from young people on our CYP social media channels. We're looking to reduce our social platforms to Instagram & TikTok and retarget our channels to YP aged 11-25 years. With the insight of capturing engagement from the 11-16 age bracket on TikTok/YouTube shorts. If you'd be able to share the following survey within any of your young groups which cater to this demographic that would be amazing. We'd love to have young people's feedback i.e. on what we should name our service now 'Dorset Mind Your Head' has come to an end of its project funded by the National Lottery.

Young carers day
Young Carers Action Day, an annual event organised by Carers Trust, is on Wednesday 15 March. Here are some quotes from its latest annual survey of 1,109 young carers and young adult carers from across the UK.
“I’d love to have kid problems. Instead, I’m saving up to try and pay our rent and to see if I can squeeze in some food at the end of it.”
“Caring never stops. Especially when it’s time to sleep, your brain constantly worries about how tomorrow will be, hospital appointments, money etc. It’s in overdrive.”
“There is a lot of pressure on me, to the detriment of my own health, wellbeing, success, happiness and future.”
“You don’t get to have bad days. If you have a bad day, the whole house can fall into disarray. It’s exhausting and traumatic.”
But you can help! Watch this short video for an insight into what it is like to be a young carer and the issues they face, and sign up to the training that helps to identify young carers. Dorset has significantly fewer identified young carers than other LA areas and this training is specifically intended to address that.
