Dorset Council Children's Services are delighted to invite you to our 3rd
Annual Dorset Strategic Alliance Conference 2023, which will be held this year, in the beautiful surroundings of Durlston Country Park, Swanage, on Friday 30th June.
This in-person event for representatives from across our partnership to learn, share ideas and reflect upon our ambitions to support every child in Dorset have the best experience they can. At lunchtime, you may have time for a tour & even spot a dolphin off the Dorset coast!
“Belonging” – Beyond inclusion, is the central focus and theme of our Conference.
We look forward to welcoming as speakers from the DfE, introducing the ‘Family First Pathfinders’ as part of the wider social care reforms. We’ll also be joined by New Local & Lisa Cherry
Dorset Youth Voice & Realising Rights will be challenging us to a practical workshop session to put our learning from the day into action, which will help us impact on improving outcomes in our Children, Young People & Families’ Plan.
We also have a surprise keynote speaker; an internationally recognised inspirational, motivational professional, who has delivered over 2500 keynotes globally to help the workforce embrace change and overcome challenges.

SMILE Lone Parent Fair! Saturday 13th May, 11am to 2pm - St James' Church, Poole, BH15 1JP
SMILE is a project that supports lone parent families, and each year we hold our fair to bring everyone together for a day of fun and community connection
If you are a single parent, a parent in a relationship with someone other than your child's birth mother/father, a blended family, a widowed family, or feel like you parent on your own for any reason, then please join us- you are more than welcome.
We have volunteers from local churches all over Poole to bring:
-Free BBQ, Bike checks and maintenance, cake and refreshments, Family photographer, pamper parlour- offering massage, hair styles and hair cuts, Creche while you visit the pamper parlour, fun fair games, face painting, crafts, Raffle
Also attending our event: Jules The Entertainer!, Family Information Services, The Friendly Food Club and Haskins planting
Bring along A BAG OF QUALITY CLOTHES/shoes that you no longer need to swop with items that you do need! - can be kids or adult items.

SHORT DEADLINE - The Triangle Trust 1949 Fund - Grants of up to £80,000 over 2 years are available to UK registered charities, not-for-profit organisations and Community Interest Companies working with young people aged 11-25 years old who have criminal convictions. Application deadline - Sunday 21st May at 23.59
King Baudouin Foundation - Community Health Fund - funding is available to not-for-profit organisations for projects to support vulnerable young people (aged 15-24) facing mental health challenges - deadline 3rd July 2023
Please find below details of our two current grant programmes which aim to support local community projects and events in the Dorset Council area. Both funds provide grants to ‘not for profit’ community groups, registered charities, and constituted community groups that aim to make a difference to people’s lives especially those residents that are marginalised, hard to reach or disadvantaged.
Dorset Council also welcomes applications from partnerships that meet the funding criteria.
Applications need to be submitted via our online application form details of which can be found on the weblink below including closing and assessment dates for each grant fund.
Grants are open (subject to meeting each funds eligibility criteria) to a wide range of groups including registered charities, constituted community groups, Town and Parish councils, village halls, sports clubs, arts groups, accredited museums, heritage and cultural groups, and play associations.
Full details of eligibility, who can apply including closing dates, how to complete an application for both the Capital Leverage Fund Round 4 (now open for applications) and the Community & Culture Project Fund Round 5 (which reopens for applications on Tuesday 9 May at 9am) can be found on the council’s ‘funding for communities’ webpage – see the link below for more details.

Funding for voluntary and community groups - Dorset Council
Hall and Woodhouse Community Chest - the application process for 2023 is expected to open on 16th May and close on the 15th July. Applications are welcome from any voluntary or community organisation that is based, or works in, our trading area. Groups can apply for grants or fundraising support ranging from £300 and £3,000 to help achieve their aims. These grants or fundraising commitments could be used towards things such as equipment and furniture, training, transport, professional assistance, specific project resources or operational costs that will help your cause. Next Deadline for DCMS Youth Investment Fund Refurbishment Grants – short deadline – 12th May
Now open for its second round, the Refurbishment Grants stream offers grants of £10,000 to £150,000 for the renovation and expansion of youth facilities in England.
The lead organisation, responsible for managing the grant, must be one of the following: Local authority, Registered or exempt charity, Community Interest Company, Community Benefit Society, Uniformed Group, Sports club
The building must be in an area identified as high priority based on a combination of youth need and low provision. An eligibility checker can be found on the Social Investment Business website.
Applicants must be working with children and young people, where the majority are aged 11 to 19 years. Where young people have a special educational need, funding may be granted up to the age of 25 years.
Funding can cover a mixture of capital, revenue and contingency costs. The revenue funding can make up 20% of the grant request and can cover delivery of the capital project and expansion of positive activities for young people. Refurbishment Grants are for projects which do not require planning permission.

The National Lottery Community Fund - Reaching Communities England - This programme offers a larger amount of funding (over £10,000) for organisations that work with their community, whether that is for people living in the same area, or people with similar interests or life experiences. The National Youth Agency are also holding an online event- NYA Supper Club - Coastal Youth Work. Young People and Coastal Youth Work may well be the solution to a sustainable coastal town.Hearing the views and experiences of youth workers and young people is central to understanding what the current challenges are for Youth Work in coastal areas. Join us to hear from workers in those areas, or to share your own experiences.

Opportunity for Young People
Nothe Fort is looking to engage with and create opportunities for young people in the local area, to support a monthly Youth Festival at the Fort.
The Youth Festival will include activities to appeal to local young people and will start with a Preloved Vintage Clothing Market, DJ sets, live music, food, and refreshments. However, these activities may change in response to what young people want.
We are looking to employ two young people to be involved with the marketing of the events, finding unique and interesting ways to promote the events to young people.
We are looking to employ up to three young people to be involved in planning and stewarding the events.
