Woodward Charitable Trust - Children's Summer Playscheme Grant
Objectives of Fund
The funding aims to support small-scale organisations that provide children's summer playschemes for children from disadvantaged backgrounds that run in the summer holidays.
Value Notes
One-off grants of between £500 and £1,000 are available. Around 35 grants are made per year.
Match Funding Restrictions
Trustees will only fund up to 50% of the total cost of a scheme.
Who Can Apply
UK registered charities, community interest companies, charitable incorporated organisations or exempt charities with an annual turnover of less than £100,000 can apply.
Restrictions
Funding is not available for the following:
- Trips that are only social such as a theme park or cinema. Trustees prefer to fund trips that are educational and motivational or relate to the natural environment such as to the seaside or countryside.
- Charities whose annual turnover exceeds £100,000.
- Overseas projects.
Eligible Expenditure
Funding is available for the provision of children's summer playschemes for children from disadvantaged backgrounds between the ages of 5-16 years.
Preference is given to:
Only projects that run for a minimum of 2 weeks, 10 full days or 20 half days across the summer holidays will be considered. Trustees prefer to fund trips that are educational and motivational or relate to the natural environment such as to the seaside or countryside.
Applicants should give details of what they plan to do, beyond a list of activities, and note that Trustees are looking for organisations that are making a real difference in their communities. Details should be given of any child-led activities, who the volunteers are and what food is provided.

Applications are now open with a deadline of 6 April 2023 (noon).
An online application form will be available to complete on the Trust's website.
Applicants are advised to stay up to date with the Trust's diary page as deadlines may change.
The Trustees will review summer play scheme applications in May and successful applicants will be informed by the end of June 2023.
