About Organisation

Shine 21 Dorset Down Syndrome Buddy Club established in 2018, is a parent-led non-for-profit community group based in Dorset. We provide a local network for families of children and adults with Down Syndrome, focusing on social activities and the development of friendships for our children.

Our aim is to work directly with families and professionals involved with the support and education of children and young people who have Down Syndrome, seeking to inspire a well-balanced and informative understanding of what our children can achieve. We advocate positive and enriching opportunities to allow our children to experience the best out of life, our activities extend from hands-on sensory workshops to physical activities and sports. There is a focus on building social skills for our young members and creating quality family time to make memories in an accessible and inclusive environment.

Shine 21 will advocate and support families to acquire the best outcomes for their child, signposting professionals to the most appropriate pathway of provision and care. With extensive knowledge in SEND provision and nursing, we inspire and empower parents to enjoy life as a part of our wonderful community, networking with all support groups and charities to highlight and improve understanding of all learning disabilities.
