Sturminster Newton Expedition Group

We are a group of volunteers who enter teams into the annual Ten Tors challenge, an event which is organised and run by the military. and civiian organisations. It is open to schools , and youth organisations from the south west.

The cohorts able to participate are years 9 to 13.

We begin the training in September, this continues through to the event. During the training we train in all aspects of expedition training to enable participants to safely complete the challenge, subjects such as navigation, first aid, emergency procedures, light weight camping, team work.

If you are looking for a challenge , this could be for you, it's not easy, you will learn a lot about yourself, but the rewards will be life changing, its an achievement that you will never forget, and the kudos that goes with it will be of benefit to you in the future.

We provide expedition training aim for the Ten Tors Challenge, but if someone just wishes to walk and not participate in the challenge that's fine. Also, there is a jubilee challenge that runs along side of the Ten Tors challenge, this is for young people who have needs that would prevent them from participating in the Ten Tors event. Although we haven't been involve with the Jubilee Challenge it would be something that we would be willing to take part in.

One last thing to mention is it is fun, we are volunteers and we want all involved to enjoy the experience.
