Bournemouth District Scouts
About Project
Adventure is at the heart of everything we do. It is the single most important thing that sets Scouts apart. It’s exciting being involved with us. We believe that through the everyday adventure of Scouting, young people and adult volunteers regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives and meet lifelong friends.
Every young person in Scouting enjoys a balanced range of activities, events and experiences, based around subject areas we call Programme Zones. The zones vary depending on which of our Sections the young person is in, but they cover a huge range of activities, from outdoor and physical pursuits to community involvement, creative expression and learning about the wider world. Together we help Scouts get the most out of their Scouting experience by including elements from as many zones as possible within the activities on offer. And the older they get, the more input young people themselves have in their own activity selection.
Hiking in the dark. Travelling across Poland with just a backpack and three friends. Spending the first night away from home. Activities are an integral part of Scouting. But as well as being challenging physically, our activities help young people set and achieve goals and grow in confidence. Scouts take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. As a Scout you can learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, or even how to fly a plane. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.
Scouts helps children and young adults reach their full potential. Scouts develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world.
Here at Bournemouth District Scouts we have sessions for 6-25 year olds and our provision is as follows: Beaver Scouts for 6-8 year olds, Cub Scouts for 8-10.5 year olds, Scouts for 10.5-14 year olds, Explorer Scouts for 14-18 year olds and Scout Network for 18-25 year olds.
