What

Family Counselling Trust provide low-cost, early counselling services for children & young people (aged 4-18yrs) and their families in Dorset.

How to Access:

You can request counselling support directly from Kay, the Family Liaison Officer in Dorset, by filling out and emailing a self-referral form. You can download a self-referral form by clicking the enquiry button below. Alternatively, you can ask your teacher or doctor to refer you. For more information about how to ask for support as a young person, please visit: www.familycounsellingtrust.org/youngpeople

Who we can help:

We are an early intervention service, offering support to young people with mild mental health issues. Children and young people who generally have more complex or long-term disorders will need more specialist help, so FCT cannot help more severe conditions. To see the full criteria of who we can help please visit: www.familycounsellingtrust.org/youngpeople

What happens:

Once we have received your request for help, Kay will get in touch to gather some more information from you. Your request will then be reviewed by our referral panel of mental health professionals who will decide if we can offer you sessions. If your request is approved, you will be matched with a fully qualified and experienced counsellor in your area and you will liaise directly with them to arrange a date and time for your first session. Usually, we offer six sessions of counselling, and these may take place at school, at the GP surgery or in a therapy room arranged by your counsellor. Your parents, siblings &/or wider family may be involved in the sessions if your counsellor and you agree this will be helpful.

How much does it cost:

Your family will be asked to contribute an amount per session (from £5) depending on your household income.
