What

Why is it easy to ask for help when struggling with a physical challenge but hard to reach out for support when your well-being and mental health decline? We may miss the signs our bodies and brains send us. Do you feel sad, angry, or lonely? Do you find it hard to get to sleep, wake in the night or sleep more than before? Do you find it difficult to concentrate, get headaches or has your appetite changed? Do you no longer want to socialise with friends and family? Is your behaviour getting you in trouble or putting you or others at risk of harm? Do you feel these difficulties were triggered by the Covid 19 pandemic or heightened during lockdown? If this is you, It is time to say I am not ok, remembering it's ok to struggle. What is not ok is hiding your worries and not looking after your mental health.

Rural Remedies recognise that since the Covid-19 pandemic, many children have struggled with their mental health and general wellbeing. Their difficulties may present in many ways, including increased anxiety, social isolation, low confidence, and problematic behaviour. Rural Remedies aims to support children aged 9-13 who do not yet meet statutory thresholds. We offer 1-1 and small group sessions using animal-centered therapy to try rebuild confidence and increase social engagement whilst supporting the children to understand that all feelings are ok. We hope that by offering early support the need for further interventions will be removed.

What to expect when you are here:

  • To be heard, your voice matters. We want to know what you think and feel so we know how to support you.
  • To belong, you will be welcomed to The Future Roots community
  • To build resilience through problem-solving and achievements
  • To develop self-regulation and support strategies to help you understand and manage your emotions
  • To have fun and forget your worries for a while
  • To be in a natural environment
  • To spend time with large and small animals

Our service is free whilst in the pilot stage but we do ask those who take part to agree to a recorded evaluation.
