About Project

Dorset Youth & Dorset Council are pleased to confirm that bookings are NOW OPEN for the FREE Youth Work Training Days running on Saturday 11th March in Beaminster

The workshops that will be on offer (provided we have sufficient sign up for each one to run) are as follows –

  • Facilitating Music Tech Sessions in your setting [3-hour workshop]

An introduction to the free digital music making platform BandLab - no musical expertise required, and even if you don’t consider yourself musical, you can learn the basics so you can support your young people to get creative with this accessible resource.

  • Using Music & Creativity to support Youth Work [1.5-hour workshop]

A session exploring some of the ideas around how music and creativity supports the wellbeing of young people and how young people’s interests in creative activities can be harnessed to support youth work interventions and outcomes - you’ll leave with some practical tips to use straight away.

  • Talk About Alcohol [1.5 hour workshop]

Information, games, and activities to enable conversations with young people to help keep them safe around alcohol.

  • Young People’s Choices Around Cannabis [1.5 hour workshop]

Looking at 16 – 24-year-olds choices around cannabis, busting myths, what’s out there, how it affects them and the law.

  • 101 ideas workshop [1.5 hour]
Stuck for ideas to deliver at your youth club? Join this session for a range of suggestions that you can use at your youth club and the chance to speak with other likeminded youth workers to share ideas/activities that are already being run at youth clubs around the County.
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid [6-hour workshop - running all day]
This one-day course will qualify you as a Mental Health First Aid Champion with MHFA England. Max 16 attendees
  • Emergency First Aid at Work [6 hour workshop running all day] Max 12 attendees
  • C Card Training [3 hour workshop running in the morning only]
A 3 hour C Card Training session in the morning that will allow you to distribute free condoms to young people. Learners will be required to complete an e-learning module (online training) to complete the training. Your name and email address will be provided to the trainer, Sexual Health Dorset team who will provide you with a login to do this training

The timetable for each day is as follows -

9:00 am - Doors open

9:30 – 11:00 – Workshop sessions 1

11:00 – 11:15 – BREAK

11:15 – 12:45 – Workshop session 2

12:45 – 13:15 – LUNCH

13:15 – 14:45 – Workshop session 3

14:45 – 15:00 – BREAK

15:00 – 16.30 – Workshop session 4

When you book a space, you will asked to choose which workshops you would like to attend and to identify your order of preference. We will try and ensure that everyone gets their first choices of training but it would be helpful if you choose more than 4 sessions worth of training in case something which you have chosen is already full. We will confirm which training sessions we have booked you onto prior to the training day (so you will know what you are going to turning up for).
