Join Dorset Youth (DY) and Dorset Council at Weymouth college for our joint Youth Worker Training Day!
Tony Nye (Dorset Council) and Lilly Markwell (Dorset Youth) have taken on board feedback from youth workers and devised a 'one stop shop' of a range of training opportunities for you and your staff and volunteer team.
This event is FREE to attend, funded by Dorset Council & Dorset Youth.

The timetable for the day is as follows -

The following training is available to book:
Suicide awareness (3 hour workshop):
This course will provide youth workers with knowledge and skills to help identify those vulnerable to suicide. You will leave the course with improved confidence, enabling you to support young people affected by suicide through effective, supportive, and compassionate intervention.
Resilience of youth workers (3 hour workshop):
Understand the significance of secondary trauma in your role as a youth worker. This course focuses on the elements needed to develop and maintain resilience in traumatic and challenging circumstances. You will understand and identify elements of the trauma tree, acknowledge the different stages associated with secondary trauma, and develop strategies to help manage the situation for yourself and others.
Emergency first aid at work (6 hour workshop)
T his training looks at possible medical emergencies and how to deal with them, recognising types of medical emergencies, how to summon help and overall, this course offers insight to situations that could be life-dependent.
Introduction to detached youth work (1.5 hour workshop)
This workshop explores the key principles of detached youth work and how it can fit into your youth work delivery
Delivering detached youth work (1.5 hour workshop) PLEASE NOTE – Anyone choosing this workshop must also choose the Introduction to detached youth work workshop
Exploring the practices and policies of detached youth work that enables high quality engagement whilst keeping young people and staff safe. In this session we will also be looking at how detached youth work fits into a contextual safeguarding framework.
Young people, gaming and gambling (3 hour workshop) – due to the nature of the material covered, this session is for people aged 18 and above only
Through engaging, evidence-based training, you’ll develop a deep understanding of the risks associated with gaming and gambling, confidence in spotting early warning signs, and practical strategies for supporting young people. We’ll explore the evolving digital landscape together, ensuring you can identify risks and access support when needed.
101 Ideas to do at youth club? (1.5 hour workshop)
Join this practical session to explore a range of suggestions of games and activities that you can run at your youth club. The chance to speak with other likeminded youth workers to share ideas and practice running some of these games. This session is aimed at new youth workers or those who looking for new ideas on what to run at youth club sessions.
What it is like to be care experienced (1.5 hour workshop)
Designed by care experienced young people in Dorset and the Youth Voice Team, this workshop will share with you the things that Dorset care experienced young people want you to know and the impact being in care can have.

Designed by care experienced young people in Dorset and the Youth Voice Team, this workshop will share with you the things that Dorset care experienced young people want you to know and top tips for strengthening your practice in a trauma informed way.
