What

Connected Minds is an 8-week early intervention programme for 10-13-year-olds (Years 6-8) experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and emotional problems and low attendance at school.

We empower young people to look after their own mental health by giving them the information and tools required to do so. We encourage young people to explore their reasons for not wanting to attend school and to develop a toolkit to address these issues going forward.

Dorset Mind is only currently running the Connected Minds initiative in Dorchester.

The 2-hour group begins with a welcome and check-in with time to talk, share and be mindful. The course is based on learning through experience so there will be a variety of activities to stimulate discussion and you’ll be encouraged to keep a journal throughout.

Our 8-week programme aims to help young people:

  • Become more aware of thoughts, feelings and behaviours
  • Understand and address worries and anxieties that affect school attendance
  • Understand the importance of the mind-body relationship
  • Develop coping skills and build resilience
  • Improve school attendance and work towards positive engagement with school

This is an early intervention and prevention service. Runs Tuesdays 9:30-11:30 term time only. Connected Minds - Dorset Mind
